Slow down the noise
Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at 10:11AM Recently, I was in California where Spring is underway. I was car-less, doing some city hiking, getting things done that I don't take time to do like find a purse that I can find my cell phone in. Walking back to the hotel from this adventure, I needed to walk a 5 block stretch of 6 lane traffic, freeway on ramps, and stressed out Californians. As I walked through the intensifying noise, out of nowhere came the delicate smell of fresh, wild grasses and flowers. It was there, all along, but somehow on the return journey this fragrance made it through the congestion of motors and metal. A simple thing but it did make me pause and notice that I could more and more tune out the noise, tune in the lovely green-ness even if it was way down there in the littered ditch.
I bet you know where I'm going with this..... New changes that we're making, those tender green shoots, need to be noticed and honored. See how beautiful and fragrant. Tune out the noise of old habits, repetitive un-true thoughts. It's all in our breath. It's all within our power to notice those shoots growing into tall permanent trees.
Found a great purse. Still digging around for that cell phone....
